‘Ramazan Chat’ with Guriya and Shehzada

Assalam-u-alaikum everyone! Ramazan Mubarak to you all! The month of fasting has just started so I am pretty sure everyone is experiencing a change in their schedules. As I told you all last week, this week both 'Phuppo ki Guriya' and 'Phuppo ka Shehzada' are here with me to ask me everything that they want to know about Ramazan.

Phuppo: Hello Guriya and Shehzada! How are you both?

Guriya: I'm fine Phuppo!

Shehzada: I'm good too Phuppo. Hello and Ramazan Mubarak to all the readers!

Phuppo: How is Ramazan going for you Shehzada?

Shehzada: It is just the first week so the rozas [fasts] until now don't seem that tough. Though the answer might be different next week.

Phuppo: That's good to hear. Our Guriya is a little young to fast but she is also fasting on some days. So, I am even more excited to know her thoughts.

Guriya: Yes, Phuppo! I wanted to fast but mom told me that I do not have to right now but I insisted so we agreed that I'll fast on some days, skipping one or two in between.

Phuppo: So, is it difficult or easy? At what time is it that you start feeling extremely hungry?

Guriya: I do feel very hungry at around 12 and again when Iftar time is near but at that time, it is easier to wait because only a little time is left. The most difficult thing is to not drink anything! So Phuppo, what tips do you have to not feel thirsty?

Phuppo: The best totka [tip] is to have yogurt in Sehri and avoid drinking tea or coffee. I practice this tip and it helps a lot. You can also drink lassi instead so tomorrow, I’ll be preparing some delicious meethi lassi for both of you!

Shehzada: OMG Phuppo! The lassi you make is delicious! I can’t wait to drink it tomorrow.

Guriya: But also, what should we do when we feel hungry during the day?

Phuppo: I don’t think feeling hungry can be avoided and so you have to be patient which is also the main focus of this month. You can try to focus on other things like prayers and studies to keep you busy and distracted from hunger.

Shehzada: True, I think I try to do the same, Guriya. You can complete your homework so that after Iftar, you can rest. Phuppo, one question that I have is how to eat healthily? There are so many unhealthy items which we associate with Ramazan so what food would you suggest that is better to eat?

Phuppo: I know how tempting it is to eat all those oily and incredibly tasty samosas, pakoras, jalebi, etc. but we should not eat too many of these items. You can eat one of each of these fried items and eat fruits also that are not only healthy, but fruits like watermelon are one of the best ways to hydrate yourself. I would suggest eating a little less at Iftar and then eat dinner after a while because suddenly eating a lot after not eating anything the whole day isn’t a good idea.

Shehzada: Wow Phuppo, you sure do have some amazing tips for a healthy Ramazan.

Guriya: Yes, I have learned so much today Phuppo and I will practice all the tips that you have given us.

Phuppo: I’m glad that you both found my advice helpful. I hope that the readers have found all this very helpful as well. Now, it is time for us to prepare for Iftar so we’ll end our conversation here. Remember to eat healthy food, drink lots of water, and take care. We’ll see you next week!

Guriya and Shehzada: Bye!
