Pakistan’s fan base for BTS’ J-Hope collaborates with Rang De Karachi to spread colors in the city

18th February 2021 marked the 27th birthday of j-hope, one of the seven members of the Grammy-nominated band K-pop band BangTan Sonyeondan (BTS). As soon as the clock struck 12 AM in South Korea, BTS fans, also known as “ARMY” started wishing the artist on Twitter, the social media platform regularly used by the group. They tweeted with various hashtags that were dedicated to the occasion and were trending worldwide.

The artist’s real name is Jung Ho-Seok and he goes by the stage name “j-hope” as a message to spread hope around the world. While he has the role of a rapper in the group, he is also known as a dancer, songwriter, singer, and record producer.

To celebrate any of the members’ birthday, ARMYs organize various projects, many of which are aimed at a social cause. Similarly, the fan base for j-hope in Pakistan also organized several projects, one of which was a wall-painting in Karachi. The fan base partnered with the organization Rang De Karachi that already had a wall-painting campaign going on in the area of Nazimabad in Karachi.

The artwork is painted by an artist working as a part of Rang De Karachi’s team, Eesha Sufyan. The painting is the album cover of j-hope’s debut mixtape called “Hope World” that was released on 2nd March 2018. The album cover features vivid colors and a colorful planet to portray the joyful and dreamy mood of the album. The album is available on SoundCloud and contains seven tracks, including the lead single “Daydream” which also has a music video.

The idea to get a wall art dedicated to j-hope was of the owner of the fan base account, Momina Sarwar who belongs from Karachi. She came to know about the “amazing murals” being done by Rang De Karachi and decided to talk to them in the first week of January. The fan base has also organized various other projects such as collecting donations for the Shaukat Khanum Hospital to support them in building another hospital. They also collected blood donations for thalassemia patients among many other projects whose details can be found on their Twitter account.

The wall painting can be found at the following location:
