Before the pandemic, I had a second job which occupied most of my time but then because of the pandemic and the lockdown, I lost my second job, and all of a sudden I had a lot of free time on my
hands. So, I decided to start posting on TikTok. I was already using TikTok for a while as my friend had introduced the platform to me a long time ago. I saw the lockdown as an opportunity to start using the app a lot more.
I love making videos of myself lip-syncing to Bollywood film dialogues. I have memorized dialogues from movies starring Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan. Especially their 90s-hit movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dil TouPagal Hai – the classics with famous dialogues. I downloaded videos of the dialogues from YouTube, memorized them, and then started using them in my TikTok videos. It is a bit difficult; in the beginning, my wife used to help me make the videos but now I have to do it myself. I bought a stand and a selfie stick to make the videos on my own. It takes time – on one video, I spend about 30 minutes. It takes 10 minutes to learn the lip-syncing for it and then also to remember what sound to use and what expressions to use. It is difficult but it works and I enjoy myself even though there is still a long way to go.
I also love working in the university’s cafeteria; I love helping people. We have a responsibility to provide the best food and the best service and to make sure that the students are eating healthy food. I try to make sure that the students get the full worth of their money and that there is no compromise in health and quality. Everything that we use, from the oil to the produce, is branded and of good quality so that everything is perfect for the students.
My experience at Habib has been very rewarding. You get to meet all sorts of people and you get to learn. You need to have knowledge about several things in order to do a good job and every day is a new experience. But the pandemic has slowed things down, the cafeteria without students is very silent and empty. It is similar to a garden pot without flowers. Without the students, it just isn’t the same and I hope that things can go back to normal soon.
