“I was very happy at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). There, I was exposed to different cultures and thought that this is only present here. This was also mainly the reason why I was hesitating to come back to Pakistan – I thought that all of the people here would be of the same kind. All would be Pakistanis, with the same thoughts and backgrounds. But coming to Habib University, as it has been a social ground for me, I realised how different people here are from each other even though they all belong to the same culture and are all, Pakistanis.
When I came to Habib, my first day was the third week for everyone else. There were no new intakes either as I came in January. I was very nervous and people thought that I was a very shy person as they had not seen me before. So I was introduced to one of the freshmen who introduced me to other freshmen. What I found really nice was that they showed me around – random people whose name I don’t even remember. They taught me how to use LMS and PSCS, one got me a locker, one made me switch professors – don’t take him, he puts a lot of pressure.
Everyone helped me out a lot without even knowing anything. If there had not been such a welcoming environment, I wouldn’t have been able to adjust in Habib. I thought that AUS people are friendly but yahan Habib ke log toh over-friendly hain. I have made friends through online classes with people who I haven’t even met in person till now.
Can we stop now? Warna mein boht emotional hojaun gee!”
